10 Venture Capital Companies That Are Significantly Investing In Blockchain Based Firms
It is only over the recent two years (2015-2017) that most of the business has truly started to develop where Venture capital firms have been putting resources into Blockchain. It is estimated that the average deal size is $2.1 million and 53.7% is through Seed Funding(as of June 2018). Over 120 VCs have until now made at least two investments in Blockchain startup companies. Let’s dig into the firms which have invested currently in this field and are also active as of this date. 1. Digital Currency Group ($78 million)
Based in New York, Digital Currency Group has been the number one investor in Blockchain since 2013. Beginning with investment in BitPay which is a crypto payment processor platform and have assiduously invested about $100 million in a dozen Blockchain/Digital Assets companies starting with Coinbase and Ripple. Their top Blockchain investments are Basis, Ledger, Circle, and Blockchain Inc.
2. Blockchain Capital ($71 million)
Recently Blockchain Capital made a $35 million series D funding for High Flyer which is a Digital Asset merchant bank. Based in San Francisco, their first investment came to light in 2013 with Series A funding in BTCC (oldest Bitcoin trading platform). Their top Blockchain investments include Circle, Coinbase, Blockstream, and Ripple.
3. Pantera Capital ($65 million)
Based in Menlo Park, Pantera is a Hedge Fund /Venture Fund making seed investments in Blockchain based companies as well as investing in cryptocurrencies and tokens. They have also invested in many ICO’s and were an early investor for Ripple. Other investments include Basis, Circle, Harbor, and DMarket.
4. Andreessen Horowitz ($55 million)
They are one of the world’s largest venture capital firms and have recently started pouring funds in the Blockchain sphere with the announcement of a $300 million crypto-centered fund. They were also an early investor in Ripple and Coinbase. Other investments include Basis, DFINITY, and Harbor.
5. Node Capital ($20 million)
Based in Beijing, China, Node Capital are mainly investing via ICOs in startups like Fengwo and ChinaUp.com. Other top investments include trip.io, HuoBi, Delphy, and Foundation.
6. Boost VC ($67 million)
Another deserving VC firm for the top Blockchain VC investors who have invested in a total of 32 companies till now. Based in San Mateo, CA, Boost VC is an investor mainly in Blockchain but also invests in AI and VR technology-based companies. They have made considerable investments in firms like Ledger, Libra Credit Network, Tezos, Ledger, and Coinbase.
7. IDG Capital ($31 million)
They invest in a variety of companies including Blockchain-based. They are one of the firms who made Series A investment in Ripple in 2013. Other investments done from January to May of 2018 include Huoxing 24, Circle, imToken, Mars, and Finance. Based in New York office, IDG also has a satellite office in Bangalore, India.
8. Draper Associates ($25 million)
Led by Tim Draper, legendary venture investor has invested in many fields including health, manufacturing, Blockchain and other startups. The first investment came to light in 2014 through a seed funding in Augmate which in an IoT wearables company following other investments in Coinbase, Ledger, CryptoMove, and Factom.
9. Ceyuan Ventures ($36 million)
Ceyuan Ventures is a VC based in Beijing, China. They have invested in Blockchain companies like Basis, Finance, OkCoin, and trip.io. Their first investment came to light in 2014 and have recently invested in four companies in 2018.
10. Union Square Ventures ($28 million)
USV, based in New York, was one of the early investors in Blockchain companies along with Sequoia. They have not been active lately but have invested in companies like Coinbase, CryptoKitties, and Polychain Capital.
