The first step toward this approach was to create an ecosystem for the veterinary sector by bringing together executives from diverse veterinary organizations.

Using a Blockchain platform solution-based approach

As someone who has had a growing love for innovation throughout my career, I’ve frequently found myself associated with fresh and exciting ideas and solutions that have the potential to provide significant value to teams or companies. Creating engagement and buy-in from others is often necessary to bridge the gap between potential and actual benefit. The questions (and often confusion) that the blockchain platform brought to the topic were one of the primary hurdles we experienced during this process, which included small group meetings and talks and bigger presentations to associations and membership groups.

Over time, we realized that the technology was secondary to the solution’s philosophy and that sharing our vision for the solution’s impact — a learner-centered model designed to transform interactions between ecosystem participants with the goal of improving learning outcomes and career opportunities — was a better use of our time. This proved to be a hugely beneficial adjustment in our messaging, as it enabled us to build the engagement and momentum with our stakeholders that we needed to chart a course forward.

Experience with network design

It is needed to develop alignment among the entities after it identified the key stakeholders, and the network design workshop was a critical step in that process. The blockchain platform brings together an unrivaled set of thought leaders from across the veterinary profession, covering all elements of veterinary team members’ professional lives, from their formative educational years to their ongoing growth and development. It’s extremely rare to see such a broad and diverse set of stakeholders come together to support an idea, cooperation that truly reflects the vision’s importance, timeliness, and promise.

The staff performed an excellent job facilitating the workshops across two days, enhancing the group’s grasp of the veterinary and the blockchain platform that underpins it. The time together was spent delving into the concept of the “industry circle,” ensuring that the ecosystem we created reflected our profession and included all necessary stakeholders. Furthermore, and probably most crucially, the members of the new collaboration collaborated to develop a shared understanding of what a solution may entail, exploring the group’s hopes, anxieties, and questions in the process.

The veterinary profession has its own blockchain platform.

Academic leaders in the veterinary field have been trying to put in place a modern competency-based framework for veterinary education. These foundational efforts were leveraged in the first work on our minimal viable product (MVP), allowing us to map the competency framework to the standard academic curriculum for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. The value of the veterinary LCN when it was implemented more widely within our industry, addressing challenges for post-graduate veterinary professionals and ultimately transforming talent management, credentialing, and licensing in the veterinary profession as a result of this work.

As in many other professions, the traditional management structure in veterinary medicine is riddled with inefficiencies, resulting in high transaction costs, processing delays, difficulties matching talent to industry needs, and a lack of trust in the validity of credentials among learners, issuers, and employers. The veterinary LCN aims to solve these issues by allowing veterinary professionals to track their professional growth and development over time by documenting their cumulative competencies earned through both formal education and practice experience. This increased granularity allows individuals to distinguish themselves while also allowing companies to look for prospective prospects based on abilities, allowing for a more efficient process of matching candidates with job vacancies.

From a regulatory standpoint, the veterinary LCN will provide a single source of truth for validated and searchable learning credentials and skills as a blockchain platform-enabled solution, reducing the time of maintaining and sharing accurate credential information across the network.
