If you have stayed on top of happenings in the blockchain world over the last year, you’ve likely heard of nonfungible tokens or NFTs as they are commonly called. NFTs have taken the world of blockchain by storm by providing a way for seamless transfer of ownership of assets, both digital and physical. NFTs are also very popular because they have seen use cases outside the blockchain industry. Additionally, they are also commonly used in the world of art, sports, and so on.

Several artists have sold their works as NFT‘s, many popular memes have been turned into NFTs and sold and even sports moments are being sold as NFTs. There is one industry, however, that many might not have considered a potential collaborator with the world of NFTs but that’s about to change. That world is that of adult entertainment which is very popular but often overlooked in the mainstream.

The Potential for NFTs in Adult Entertainment

Adult entertainment, regardless of whatever views people have about it, is very popular. Billions of dollars are spent on the industry globally and on the Internet, adult content is very profitable. A third of all Google searches have been found to be related to adult content and XVideos, a popular porn site, sees as much traffic as Netflix and Amazon combined.

If that many eyes are on an industry’s content, there’s always the possibility for monetization, in this case, through NFTs. First, fans of adult films might want to purchase certain memorabilia or exclusive content, and NFTs are a great way to do so. Then there is the content itself as specific adult visual content can be sold as an NFT to a willing market. This sort of payment setup goes a long way to bring the adult film industry into the world of NFTs but also creates more monetization pathways for adult performers to be in charge of their earnings and the distribution of the content that they make. This is where RarePorn comes in.

What is RarePorn?

RarePorn is a platform that sells NFTs specifically related to the adult film industry and is the first of its kind. RarePorn has a vision of creating an exclusive marketplace for the adult film industry to monetize its content via NFTs and has an impressive team behind it. Some of the co-founders of the site include a marketplace expert from Amazon, a former COO from Meero which is a French unicorn that made headlines after raising $350 million.

There are also a lot of talents that are in the adult film industry attached to the project. First, there is Fred Copulla, who is a porn film producer in France and is one of the most recognized in the industry and having won 17 Hots Golden. The platform also has Manuel Ferreira who is one of the biggest names in the adult film industry who will act as the ambassador for the platform. A number of adult film actresses have also signed on to be attached to the project including Cléa Gauthier, Tiffany Leiddi, Anissa Kate, Lola Bellucci, and Emily Willis.

Current and Future Milestones

While some might doubt the amount of interest that exists for the adult film industry to warrant such a platform, RarePorn’s most recent achievements prove otherwise. $2 million was raised in a private sale, and currently, its token sale is ongoing which has raised over $7.8 million on its site.

It is the biggest ICO fundraising in France at the moment and investments are still being taken till the end of July 2021. In terms of NFTs already sold, $10,000 was paid for their first-ever NFT which consisted of a super NFT but also a piece of her underwear of actress Clea Gaultier and an exclusive video of her for whoever bought it.

Five other NFTs have been sold by RarePorn since its inception and clearly, with that and its fundraising figures, there is potential in its business model. Additionally, RarePorn is seeking to bring in top talent to produce exclusive content and to launch a video platform. This is not dissimilar to the current OnlyFans model except users can stake their tokens or buy the NFTs of specific porn performers to get exclusive content.

Their native token $PKN, will also be used to watch porn in a similar model as the BAT token that is used in the Brave ecosystem. There are also plans to make sure that ethical consideration is taken in all its dealings.

Educational messages will be given to viewers, many of them young people, through its ambassadors to ensure that no unrealistic expectations are being set with the content being offered. A portion of their tokens will be distributed towards associations within the sector and the site has publicly stated a commitment to make sure that no revenge porn, minor porn, or unethical content will be found on the platform. Clearly, the porn industry has great potential and NFTs may be the next step in the evolution of the monetization of adult content and looking forward, RarePorn will be part of the equation.
